The Data score on Booking.com search APIs

This score, out of 100, shows how many stays and stay details a provider returns for a search. The score also shows whether those details match Booking.com's. We send each provider the same destination and dates a person types into Booking.com's search box. We read Booking.com's search page for each destination without logging in. We read the page three times: before our calls, during them and after them. Booking.com's page can list different stays minutes apart. A stay is on the page when at least one of our reads of Booking.com's page lists the stay. We match each of the provider's stays to a stay on Booking.com's page by the stay's hotel ID. We score each search on the number of stays and on each stay detail, such as the star rating. We score the number of stays only on searches where Booking.com's page lists a stay. We score a stay detail on a search only when Booking.com's page shows the detail for at least one stay. To score the number of stays, we count the provider's stays that are also on Booking.com's page. We divide the matching stays by the stays on Booking.com's page. We use the Booking.com page we read closest in time to the answer. A result above 1 counts as 1. To score a stay detail, we look at the provider's stays that are also on Booking.com's page. We compare each of the provider's stays with the Booking.com page we read closest in time to the answer. If that read doesn't list the stay, we use the next closest read that does. We skip stays where Booking.com's page doesn't show the detail. For each stay detail, we take the share of matched stays where the provider lists that detail. We compare some stay details, such as the star rating, with Booking.com's page. We count a detail as missing when the provider's value differs. We don't compare prices with Booking.com's page. Booking.com can show a different price from one minute to the next. For each search, we average the provider's shares of the parts that count on that search. Then we average over all searches. Each search has the same weight. A provider scores 0 on a search where the call returned no stays. We compare a provider that ran on fewer searches with the other providers on those same searches. A provider can't score higher by running only on easy searches. We lower the score when we test the call on fewer searches than the benchmark has.
