The Data score on App Store search APIs

We score each provider out of 100. A high score means the provider's call returns most of the search's apps and their details. We send each provider the words of a search, as a person types them in the App Store. For each search, we check which parts the answer held, such as the apps and each app's price. Then we divide the parts the answer held by the parts we count. That gives the answer's score for that search. We count a part, such as the price, when a live call returned the part. We also count a part when Apple's record shows the part for an app on the list. We compare each part with Apple's record. A part that doesn't match counts as missing. A wrong price scores the same as no price. For the apps list, we count the apps in the answer. We divide that count by the most apps any answer held for that search. We cut every provider's list to the length of the longest list for the search, up to 50 apps. We keep an app only when Apple's search or another provider also lists the app. Each app has details, such as the price. We count the share of the provider's apps that show each detail. We average the results over all searches. Every search counts the same. A provider scores 0 on a search where the call returned no app. We compare a provider that ran on fewer searches with the other providers on those same searches. A provider can't score higher by running only on easy searches. We lower the score when we test the call on fewer searches than the benchmark has.
